MassHealth Eligibility Redetermination

Caregivers holding up sign for MassHealth Health Plans In March 2020, the federal government declared a public health emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, MassHealth put protections in place that prevented a member’s MassHealth coverage from ending during the COVID-19 emergency.

The flexibility extended during the public health emergency is ending. As a result, the standard annual eligibility renewal process will again be enforced.

MassHealth will be checking everyone’s eligibility. Everyone who has MassHealth will need to complete a redetermination application. There have been some rule changes affecting people over age 65.

Here are some things you can do now to avoid the risk of losing MassHealth coverage for you or your loved one:

  • Update your contact information
  • Report any household changes (for example, new income)
  • Pay attention to ALL mail from MassHealth.

Depending on your level of computer skills, a lot of this can be done online.

For those comfortable with a computer, go to this link and review the MassHealth Eligibility Redetermination. The documents and instructions (in nine languages) are all there. You can create your own account by going to this page. You can also make an appointment to talk with a representative about your situation.

For those who are less computer savvy, call the main MassHealth line at 800-841-2900 or call your AFCNS team. We can help.

Whatever you do, do not ignore mail from MassHealth!
